Vehicle Noise Limits (Enforcement) Bill 2016-17

The aim of this Bill was to make provision for the enforcement of noise limits for vehicles via automatic monitoring equipment; and for connected purposes.

At present, vehicle noise limits are defined by Regulations 55-57 of the Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986, with breaches of these limits punishable by fine. This Bill seeks to ensure that enforcement of these limits can occur using the existing vehicle enforcement network.

The Bill had its first reading on 4th July 2016, with the second reading due to take place on 2nd December 2016. Due to time constraints, the Bill was not read on that occasion, and was due to have its second reading on 13th January 2017. Again, due to time constraints the Bill was not read, so has been added to the Order Paper for 24th February 2017. Since this date, the Prime Minister has called an early General Election. As this Bill has not cleared both Houses of Parliament, the Bill has not made it in to legislation.
