Read Easy Torbay

Award - £200

Website -

Read Easy was first established in Dorchester in 2010 to tackle adult illiteracy as part of a prison rehabilitative program. The success of this initial scheme has seen a number of Read Easy groups be set up across the UK, including one in Torbay in August 2015. The group aims to provide a more attractive alternative to adult education classes, providing each new reader the opportunity to learn with the own dedicated volunteer reading coach on a flexible and friendly basis.

The award of £200 will help the group to cover the travel expenses of their volunteer coordinators, who help to pair the readers with suitable reading coaches. In addition, the award will ensure the group can ensure that venues are safe before hosting the group, and will also be used to support the coaches when they report back.
