A major refurbishment of Paignton War Memorial will be undertaken in time for events to mark Remembrance Sunday.
The work will be done in two phases. The first phase starting on Wednesday 13th August will see the memorial’s stonework cleaned and repointed. The second, due to take place in September, will focus on the metalwork, including the bronze plaques on the memorial.
Together these two programmes of work will see the memorial’s appearance improved significantly, with an electrical cable that had been hanging against the War Memorial having already been removed.
Kevin Foster commented: “Earlier this year I offered to help led up a community project to get the memorial refurbished. I have been supported in this work by members of Paignton Royal British Legion and the Paignton and Preston Community Partnership, plus Torbay Council who are taking the project forward.
"400 men who left Paignton to answer the call of duty are remembered on the memorial. This refurbishment will ensure the memory of their sacrifice is kept alive for future generations."
