Back in September 2023 that £20m was awarded by the then Conservative Government to support schemes across Torquay as part of its then Plan for Towns.

Whilst this award was reviewed by the Labour Government after the election, they decided to continue with it as part of their Pride in Neighbourhood scheme. Now the first six projects to benefit have been selected. These are:

  • The resurface and repair of a multi-use games area at the Windmill Centre in Hele
  • A community hub being created in Higher Union Street
  • The regeneration of the Barton Recreation Ground Community Hub
  • Support for revitalisation work at the Royal Lyceum Theatre
  • Funding for community provision at St Mary Magdalene
  • And finally funding to convert Ellacombe Church into a multi-use community hub!!!

Kevin said: "As a resident of Ellacombe, I am delighted to see the historic church building get this funding, alongside 5 other great projects in Torquay. It's a reminder the impact funding secured can have for our community and the difference it makes for our bay having a representative in a group which can take decisions, not just one that can only write letters to those who do."
