There’s been good news on a long running request for road safety improvements on Teignmouth Road near St Cuthbert Mayne School.
Back in 2021 a call from local road safety campaigners for a pedestrian crossing to be installed was rejected under the then Lib Dem\Ind Coalition Administration.
The demands for action to improve road safety were reignited in early 2023 when an accident on the road occurred, yet a request for bollards to stop pavement parking was also declined by the Lib Dem\Ind Coalition.
Last year progress was made under the now Conservative controlled Torbay Council, with a formal consultation on introducing a 20 MPH limit on the road near to the school. This was alongside suggestions of where a safe crossing could be put on the Teignmouth Road near the school. Torbay Council working party which was due to consider a proposal for work on the site. The good news is work to install a pedestrian crossing, near the school gate, on Teignmouth Road will now take place over the school summer holiday.
Local campaigner Kevin Foster said: "It is good to see this positive result for a long running campaign. I am grateful to Conservative Cabinet Member for Highways Cllr Adam Billings for taking this forward and not only listening to the requests for action, but setting out clear plans for improvements."
