Aviation Group Emerges as Likely New Owner for Coventry Airport
Patriot Aviation Group has emerged as the likely new owner of Coventry Airport.
One of the leading general aviation players, Patriot Aviation is owned by top entrepreneur and Regional Ambassador, Sir Peter Rigby.
Sir Peter has a long track record of investing in the West Midlands and is a major employer and vocal champion for the region. Having recognised the airport's potential and synergies with his aviation businesses, he has proactively worked to find a way of helping to deliver a sustainable future for the airport.
"I see Coventry airport as a best kept secret: It has the potential to be a general aviation hub, handling cargo and serving helicopters, light aircraft and business jets." said Sir Peter.
Councillor Ken Taylor, Leader of Coventry City Council has confirmed that talks are taking place and that Patriot Aviation is in an exclusive period of due diligence. It is hoped that a deal, which would save hundreds of jobs, will complete by mid March 2010.
Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Coventry South, Cllr Kevin Foster, said: "I am delighted that Sir Peter is involved in the latest efforts to get Coventry Airport up and running again. Hundreds of local jobs depend directly on a deal being done and I hope that this news will be the light at the end of the tunnel for so many workers."
