    Coventry Airport Back in Business

Kevin has today welcomed the news that Coventry Airport is open for business and operational again following its acquisition by Sir Peter Rigby's Patriot Aerospace, earlier this year.

The announcement signals a an end to the uncertainty that has dogged the Airport over recent months. Hundreds of local jobs directly linked to the Airport, as well as the thousands of jobs provided by companies which rely on the Airport now appear secure. Kevin understands that Patriot Aerospace will offer a range of aviation services - including leisure, business and freight - with passenger flights cited amongst the possibilities for future developments.

Councillor Kevin Foster, whose Cheylesmore ward borders the airport, said: "I welcome the news that the Airport is back open for business following the deal that was done earlier this year ending a period of great uncertainty for many local workers. The Airport supports hundreds of skilled local jobs and plays a key part in Coventry & Warwickshire's economy. If it had been forced to close thousands of people would have lost their jobs."

Whilst welcoming the news Kevin also believes that a real partnership between residents and the Airport needs to be developed. He added: "I hope the Airport can now move on and develop its real potential. Yet a key part of ensuring that the Airport has a viable future is ensuring that any new business brought to the Airport respects the needs of residents in Whitley & Stonehouse Estate."

Coventry Airport will be hosting a "Fly in" on 26th September 2010 in aid of Help for Heroes, a charity that supports wounded servicemen and women. Further details can be found by visiting: www.flyincoventryairport.com
